I made a second example of the dynamic dc offset distortion not for clickbait but to better show how it sounds. This time i took a deeper pitch to also show how it feels in the bass range. If you watch the spectrum analyzer you will notice that the periodic resonances in the spectrum resemble those of pulse width modulation some of you might now from synthesizers or comb filters like in short delays/ flangers/ choruses ( but here without the typical frequency beating of slightly detuned waves). that kind of makes sense since asymmetrically clipped waveforms also look a lot like pulse width waves. Here it's less bright/ less treble because of the way distortion works ( you can simply boost the treble with an eq ). It is the foldback that makes the fundamental weaker than the upper harmonics because the more foldback the more it starts to behave like rectifier within a certain gain range. Fun fact if you add a polarity/ phase inverted delayed waveform to a sawtooth or really any other harmonically rich wave it will also sound and look a lot like PWM. The most simple way would be as i discovered is to just do an bell curve eq boost sweep with a high q factor / resonance before the distortion input if you're specifically trying to get that sound. the rounded lines of the waveform in this vid are because of the high pass filter which by it's principle shifts any signals partials more and more in phase the deeper the affected frequencies go. i added to the end of the signal chain so the changes in DC wouldn't constantly make the wave move up and down on the oscilloscope.
