Tarikh Episode 645

In this episode Nikhil talks about Jogendra Nath Mandal. He was a founding father of Pakistan and served as the country's first Minister for Law and Labour, as well as the second Minister of Commonwealth and Kashmir Affairs. Mandal was a leader of the Scheduled Castes (Dalits) and opposed the division of Bengal in 1947, fearing the potential oppression of Dalits in both East and West Bengal. Eventually, he chose to stay in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and joined the first cabinet of Pakistan.
However, Mandal faced challenges and conflicts within the Muslim League-led government in Pakistan. Continuous suppression and disagreements, especially in the aftermath of Jinnah's death, led to his resignation in 1950. He returned to India, citing the anti-Dalit bias in the Pakistani administration. Despite his contributions, Mandal faced difficulties after returning to India and dedicated himself to the rehabilitation of Hindu refugees from East Pakistan.
Jogendra Nath Mandal passed away on 5 October 1968 in Bongaon, West Bengal, leaving behind a legacy as a champion for the rights of the oppressed and a key figure in the early political landscape of Pakistan.
