On the fateful day of May 21, 1991, the youngest Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Late Shree Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a suicide bomber from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). It targeted him in retaliation for his decision to send Indian peacekeeping forces to Sri Lanka during the civil conflict. This tragic event marked a significant moment of violence in India's political history. Rajiv Gandhi significantly advanced our nation's modernization. He promoted information technology and telecommunications, paving the way for India's IT revolution. He established the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to expand access to higher education. His tenure was marked by significant reforms that modernized India and laid the groundwork for future growth.
