On a cold snow-swept day, Princess Zhao sets off for the state of Qin to become the Concubine of King Qin. Court Officials and Warrior Xia (now stripped of his military rank) come to send her off. He slams her for her disloyalty to him. She finally shows him the Letter of demand written by King Qin. Upon reading, Xia now realise the reasons for her actions: she is sacrificing her happiness so that her country could have its king back, and in the process, she is also giving up the man she truly loves. He sings a sad lament, whilst she plays a tune on her favourite musical instrument to accompany him. They bid a final tearful farewell for they will not meet ever again in this life.
