Part 3 of my walkthrough of Super Metroid. I will be collecting 100% of items and will complete the game in under 3 hours in order to get the best ending.

I decided to turn off the Moon Walk from this point onwards to avoid unintentionally using it while holding a charge shot. Need to keep my control scheme as comfortable as possible so I can effectively perform these upcoming sequence breaks. Normally, you would be restricted to only picking up the Hi-Jump Boots in Norfair because the other rooms are too hot for Samus to survive in without the Varia Suit. You would then be encouraged to use your increased jump height to reach Kraid's lair and acquire the necessary upgrade. Since we fought Kraid early, we avoided that backtracking requirement making Norfair free for us to explore. Well, most of it at least.

I pick up my first Reserve Tank here. Each Reserve Tank will restore 100 units of health when used, and can be recharged using health drops from enemies or health recharge stations. It's almost identical to how Sub Tanks work in the Mega Man X games. They can be configured to be activated automatically when Samus' health reaches 0, or they can be used manually from the pause screen.

In the lower half of this area, you'll find a monster known as Crocomire. Like Kraid, it takes damage from shots that land inside its mouth. Unlike Kraid (or most other bosses for that matter), it cannot be killed by conventional means. Crocomire will try to inch forward slowly and if left to its devices, it will eventually crush Samus against a wall of spikes on the left side of this arena. When Crocomire takes damage, it gets pushed back a bit, moving it closer towards an unstable bridge over a pool of lava. You'll need to push it far enough until its entire body sits on the bridge, where you will be treated to the most gruesome death animation in the game. Yikes.

Sequence breaking also lets us acquire early Power Bombs, which opens up Norfair even more. Thanks to that we obtain a plethora of new powerups and return to the entrance significantly more powerful than when we first arrived.
