Sorry for the long video. I really didn't think there would be so much to cover in this old railroad yard! The Southern Pacific Railroad built the Bakersfield yard facilities beginning in 1875. It became a division point by 1876 and remained so until the Union Pacific takeover in 1996.
Although there are almost no structures left in the yard, there are plenty of reminders of what used to be here. I have worked in and around Bakersfield from the 1984 to the present day and remember well when it was still a very busy place.
So join me on a tour and exploration of the Bakersfield Yard!
