There are increasing calls on Capitol Hill for lawmakers to regulate Big Tech companies, some are even calling them monopolies. Lawmakers are worried about companies sharing personal information, censoring speech and more. Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon are all influencing the way Americans think. Senator John Thune says, "Social media algorithms kick in. People get manipulated. The experience they have, the things they see and read there are manipulated by an algorithm, which filters the content they see." He adds that he wants users to be in charge, not artificial intelligence networks or bots that dictate what you see and read. Others say the Biden Administration is using Big Tech companies to keep lists of people who post problematic language. Senator Marsha Blackburn says "That's precisely what they're doing. This administration is using the full weight of their office, the full weight of the presidency to censor the free speech of the American public." Democrats also want to reign in Big Tech. A recent House Judiciary Committee report says the Big 4 Tech companies enjoy a monopoly power that needs to be regulated by Congress. Many lawmakers support revoking Big Tech's immunity from prosecutions when posting third party content, known as Section 230 of the Federal Communications Decency Act. Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
