The Canton Tower standing 600m tall was built in Guangzhou in 2010. It's the tallest building in China and the 4th tallest in the world.
In late 2011 the attractions at the top of the tower opened. Among them the Bubble Tram, a slowly moving series of gondolas that travel around the edge of the observation deck. It's described as the World's highest observation wheel, although it's horizontal rather than vertical.

Definitely recommend doing as the sun sets as you get to see the city transform in to a spectacular landscape of LED lights.
