A KFC unit in San Luis, Arizona, which had been out of business for some time, began to show activity inside and outside the building. There was no indication that the restaurant was going to reopen, which caught the attention of the police.

One day, a man was seen loading boxes into his truck from inside the building. The police pulled him over and with the help of a sniffing dog, they found two black toolboxes filled with illegal substances. The driver, Ivan Lopez, was caught in the act and arrested. He was transporting 352 pounds of drugs, worth about $1 million in street value.

The police then investigated Lopez's properties and discovered he owned a former KFC building. They went to the restaurant to search the place. It was empty, but they noticed a trapdoor in the kitchen area. When they opened it, they found a tunnel 22ft deep, 5ft tall, 3ft wide and nearly 600ft long. The tunnel ended up under a bed in a house in Mexico and was used to smuggle drugs into the United States.
