Despite government efforts and huge investments to improve education, some schools in remote areas continue to face severe challenges. Baraha Domanda Government Upper Primary School in Rajkanika block, Kendrapara district, presents a stark example.
The school, established in 1953, has eight grades but only three teachers. Due to the shortage of classrooms, multiple grades share a single classroom: fifth, sixth, and seventh grades are taught together in one room, while third, fourth, and eighth grades share another. First and second graders have a separate room. With no desks available, some students sit on chairs while others sit on the floor during lessons.
Currently, 76 students are enrolled, struggling to receive quality education under these conditions. This situation highlights the urgent need for more infrastructure, teachers, and learning resources in rural schools to ensure equitable education for all.
