New typhoon threat in the Philippine Sea

A borderline tropical cyclone is active near Palau in the Philippine Sea, and is expected to become a tropical depression or storm within hours. The storm will then rush towards the eastern Philippines, with the highest impacts expected on the island of Samar. Rainfall of up to 10 inches (250mm) and winds of 50 miles per hour (80kph) are forecasted for Samar, with the storm expected to strengthen further after it clears Catanduanes, and turn northeast. Current model projections show a peak in the Category 3 range as it curves northeast near Daitojima.
