How Tysabri (natalizumab) works in Multiple Sclerosis

Описание к видео How Tysabri (natalizumab) works in Multiple Sclerosis

In this vid, I explain the mechanism of action of Tysabri (natalizumab) in relapsing Multiple Sclerosis, In broad strokes, the naughty autoreactive immune cells in the blood stream cross over the blood brain barrier where they gain access to the central compartment and attack brain and spinal cord tissue!

Considering the "three little pigs" story, we can think of the normal blood brain barrier as the "straw house." It's very easy for cells to cross the barrier!

If we add tysabri, we turn the "straw house" into the "brick house" - we create the great wall of china and allow NO cells to traffic across the blood brain barrier. Therefore those naughty cells that would attack brain IF they could gain access are kept out of the central compartment.
