Exercise CRYSTAL ARROW - Training to defend Latvia

Multinational Exercise Crystal Arrow 23 took place from 20-31 March 2023 in Camp Ādaži military training area in Latvia. EX Crystal Arrow is led by Latvian Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade (MECH Bde) and is the NATO Combat Readiness Evaluation (CREVAL) for the enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group’s Latvia 23-01 rotation. Around 3000 soldiers from 15 Allies participate in the exercise which involves mechanized infantry, artillery batteries, main battle tank companies and engineers plus combat support and service units.Allied Command Operations (ACO), NATO's headquarters for all military plans and operations, is the successor to two historic strategic commands for NATO – Allied Command Europe and Allied Command Atlantic.

ACO is one of The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (NATO) two strategic military commands. The other command being Allied Command Transformation ACT in Norfolk, Virginia.

ACO is commanded by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and is responsible for all Alliance military operations. The command headquarters, known as Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, or SHAPE, is located in Casteau near Mons, Belgium. The mission of ACO and the SACEUR is to contribute to preserving the peace, security and territorial integrity of NATO member nations in its area of responsibility.
