In 2025, as the Sun reaches its peak activity, the world has been treated to an extraordinary display of solar events. This rare moment in the Solar Cycle inspired the OAO to dedicate this year’s Women and Girls in Astronomy programme to Women of Solar Physics.

Throughout 2025, we created a series of events and activities to highlight the work of women whose research in solar physics is often less visible, yet deeply important. Our aim was not only to showcase the diversity of scientific contributions, from different countries, languages, and career paths, but also to honour the commitment of women who study the Sun and its influence on our daily lives.

Alongside our celebrations on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February) and International Women’s Day (8 March), the theme continued across the year, inviting the public to learn more about the Sun, its changing activity, and the women shaping our understanding of it.
