🚨 5 MEDICAL MEANINGS OF NECK PAIN:

Pain at the Base of the Skull: Usually muscle tension from poor posture, stress, or sleeping wrong. If it's mild and improves with stretching, it's benign. However, if it's intense, sudden, and accompanied by extreme stiffness, it could be a sign of meningitis or cerebral hemorrhage. ALERT: If you cannot touch your chin to your chest = EMERGENCY.

Radiating Pain to the Muscles: Pain that moves down toward the shoulders, arms, or causes tingling indicates cervical nerve compression (herniated disc, pinched nerve). It requires medical evaluation and may need physical therapy or surgery depending on severity.

Meningitis, Abscess, or Bone Infection: MEDICAL URGENCY. Symptoms: severe neck stiffness + fever + confusion + vomiting + light sensitivity. Bacterial meningitis can be fatal within hours. Abscesses and bone infections (osteomyelitis) are also grave. Call 911 if you have these symptoms.

Neck Pain with Jaw Pain: This can indicate a heart problem, especially in women. A heart attack can manifest as neck pain + jaw pain + left arm pain + nausea + sweating. It could also be TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder. If you suspect a heart issue = Call 911 immediately.

Swollen Lymph Nodes in the Neck: These indicate an active infection (viral/bacterial) or an immune problem. Small, movable nodes usually mean a common infection. Large, hard, fixed, painless nodes could indicate lymphoma. Consult a doctor if they persist for more than 2 weeks.
