Heather McAvoy, ASTC, is the owner of Heather McAvoy Design, an independent theatre consulting and lighting design practice. She was previously Principal with Schuler Shook, leading its San Francisco Bay office from 2016-2024. In 1986 she joined Landry & Bogan Theatre Consultants and over 30 years worked as an associate, Principal and, ultimately President. In 38 years of practice, she has consulted on over 250 projects. Favorites include the Thomas Theatre at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Mandell Weiss Forum at La Jolla Playhouse, Portland Center Stage at the Armory, Clayes Performing Arts Center at CSU Fullerton, the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, CA, and the Roble Gym Complex at Stanford University.

She has extensive experience in lighting design for theatre, dance, opera and events. She is a lighting design member of United Scenic Artists, on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Theatre Consultants and past president, a member of the Women+ In Theatre Consulting group, United States Institute of Theatre Technology and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. She is on the Board of Advisors for the Studio School of Design in New York.

She is passionate about supporting theatre programs in her community and local schools and serves on the Board of Directors of the Half Moon Bay Shakespeare Company

First Fridays @ Fusion Studio one-hour virtual workshops provide a monthly opportunity to discuss emerging trends in technology in the entertainment industry, engage with industry experts and practitioners, and explore scholarly works.
