Let's throw my guitar in the back with the sacks and the jack and
the cooler with our snacks and we will drive like we're being chased
and we ain't never coming back abandon everyone and everything
that we forgot to pack fly west along that highway like a train that
jumped its track and we'll talk about the likelihood of alien attack
and sing yahoo wahee a road trip song

We'll push the pedal to the floor right past each place we've been
before and talk in lovely metaphors about the great forever more
and stop for jerky at the store we took a three hour detour for and
fly our hands outside the door and laugh about the time we swore
we'd never grow old or be bored or get too focused on the score
and wonder if we'll ever live to see another war and sing

And if we ever feel like we might say
well it's your way or it's my way
or there's any danger we might stay
let's find another highway
we've never seen before

We'll take turns paying for the gas and point out every pretty lass
and every muscle car we pass and watch for deer in the tall grass
along the road and we'll amass a veil of splatters on the glass and
stop to stretch and then repass the big rigs on the overpass and
wonder if there ever will be anything that could surpass the glory
of our days long past disappearing far too fast and sing
