This large sideboard from Gansu province in western China would grace any setting, with its contrasting deep red lacquer frames and pale, painted door panels. The paintings in monochrome are worn but still visible, showing mountain landscapes. Originally used for grain storage, the unit has been converted into a more practical storage cabinet with shelves inside and give a refresh with a new lacquer finish over the original. Today it would make a stunning focal point in a living or dining room.
