So in todays episode I'm pulling apart, fully restoring and rebuilding the Showa front forks for the CR250R. The first job is to separate the shocks into there component form, to do this I need to loosen but not remove the rebound adjuster from the base and then take the top cap off the fork tube so that i can drain all the oil out, there is a drain on the fork leg but as the shock is coming apart its quicker to to just drain it through the top.

When all of the oil has been removed I can then fully remove the rebound adjuster and that allows me to remove the spring and damper assembly from the fork tube and slider. As long as the spring is in good condition and isn't shorter than what Honda specifies then there is no need to pull the assembly apart.

To separate the fork tube from the slider first I need to remove the dust seal it chaps out very easily, then to remove the oil seal I need to remove the locking ring and then use the fork tube as its own slide hammer to drive the seal from the slider body and with that disassembly is pretty much complete.

To restore the forks the sliders were blasted, filed, sanded and then vapor blasted some more to restore the natural satin alloy finish. The rest of the components were given a thorough inspection and cleaning before being re-used and of course all new bushings and O-rings were used throughout the assembly phase.

So I hope you enjoyed this episode and ill see you all again very soon,

Enjoy
