*Note: This is a modified combination of the "Vodder technique" (a 2-way skin stretch) from two different training schools (both with the 135+ hours of training as recommended by the National Lymphedema Network). A modified example is the "proper" technique of a stationary circle. Proper technique (with a person lying on a bed) is moving the hand down towards the bed (toward the fingertips), & then towards the direction of desired drainage. For the trunk sequence demonstrated (going along the side of the body), I have found it is often easier for a patient when using flexor muscles to pull in towards the chest instead of pushing away from it before directing the hand towards the axillary (armpit) area of drainage. If they have a partner, the partner can try either direction. The important concept is to direct the final hand stretch towards the area of desired drainage (the armpit). These demonstrations are for a person who has genital lymphedema, not for a medical professional. Medical professionals need to seek training from an approved training program as specified by the National Lymphedema Network or the Lymphology Association of North America. Some of these schools include the Dr. Vodder School, Klose Training, American Academy of Lymphatic Studies & the Norton School.
