Solo Hiking to the Top of Germany | Zugspitze

Описание к видео Solo Hiking to the Top of Germany | Zugspitze

Hiked the highest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze (2962 m asl), in later half of July 2023. The route starts from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Germany, and goes through the Rein Valley (Reintal). This route is generally considered to be the least technical of all the possible routes (apart from the cable car ride to the very top of course).

One can start the trail from the Olympic Ski Stadium in Partenkirchen, which goes through the gorgeous Partnachklamm and through the Reintal. You have options to take refuge in two mountain huts via this route, the Reintalangerhütte and the Knorrhütte. Knorrhütte, however, distributes the altitude almost in two halves. For the hike up from the Zugspitze plateau to the summit, you need to be a bit surefooted, if you don't take the via ferrata set that is. On top you can see the German and the Austrian Alps as far as the eye can see.

My initial plan was to hike up and down in two days, via different routes, ascent via Reintal, and descent via Gatterl and to Ehrwald, Austria. However a halt of two hours on day two made me take the cable car down to Eibsee, where I finished with a refreshing dip in the lake.

Peace.
