After Kari's father Merv was diagnosed with Alzheimers the two encountered a rare opportunity to bike the TransAmerica Bike Trial. Together they not only weathered the 4,200 miles from Virgina to Oregon over 72 days and learn about each other but also about Americans across the country. Kari Loya is an educational leader, adventurer, and storyteller. He loves empowering individuals, teams, and organizations to perform at their best. He has worked nearly three decades at a range of innovative educational institutions, beginning with Teach for America in 1993 and serving most recently as headmaster at the Good Hope Country Day School in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He is also an Emmy-winning bilingual voice talent, author, and musical artist. He holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Columbia University. He currently lives with his wife and daughter in Sugar Land, Texas. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
