Tuesday's deadly shooting at a North Georgia high school brought this year's total of mass shootings to 285.

Four people were killed at Apalachee High School in Winder, northeast of Atlanta.

Vice President Kamala Harris called the distressing shooting "senseless" and professed "it doesn't have to be this way."
