How GREAT is it? Ghostek Exec 4 Wallet Case Review - iPhone 11

So this odd looking case is the Ghostek Exec 4. At a bare minimum, the Exec 4 is a wallet case. That works with magnetic car mounts and Qi-charging…if you remove the wallet.

The ability to remove the wallet opens up a world of opportunity for other accessories which is pretty cool.

Design

The design of the Exec 4 is unique. The first word that come to mind when I first started using the case was “chunky”. There is nothing sleek about the Ghostek Exec 4 and I thought that would bother me BUT after using it for a few days, it’s grown on me. The case itself is very thin so the bulk of the wallet isn’t that noticeable.

The case fits the iPhone relatively well and is made from PC and TPU though the corners of the iPhone are only covered in TPU. The edges of the case are high enough to actually prevent the iPhone from sliding around face first and the wallet attachment will stop your iPhone from sliding around on its back. Without the wallet attachment, the back of the case is fairly slick. I’ll cover the wallet attachment in a bit more detail in a few minutes.

The Exec 4 won’t show excessive usage and the texture on the case as I mentioned earlier is top notch. The oversized corners on the case as well as the bumps on the edge of the case defiantly helps with the handling of the Exec 4 with larger iPhone’s like the 11 Pro Max. Now I do have to point out that where my hands sit on the device, the case feels very thin. Like the Mous Contour.

Protection

When it comes to protection, the Exec 4 has military grade drop protection but doesn’t provide a height for drops so at the very least it’s going to provide 4ft worth of drop protection.I personally wouldn’t drop it any higher.

The edges of the case are tall enough to keep the screen of an iPhone off a flat surface, even with a standard glass screen protector. The Exec exposes your iPhone a bit more to dust as the locking mechanism for the wallet case exposes small slivers on the back of your iPhone.

Functionality

In terms of accessing my iPhone, I didn’t have any issues. The buttons work fine, the camera and ports are unhindered and Qi-charging works as long as you remove the wallet attachment.

Let’s take a closer look at the wallet portion of the Exec 4. The wallet portion of the case hold up to 4 cards but that’s a stretch. I was most comfortable with two cards in the case as it took the guesswork of trying to find the right card.

Now unlike other modular products I’ve used in the past from Switchlok and BUDU, the Exec 4’s mounting system doesn’t use magnets. This ensures that the mount to the case is rock solid which is great BUT it makes it a littler harder to remove.

There is a magnetic plate on the back of the fake leather which offers the ability to use magnetic car mounts on the case but takes away your ability to use RFID cards or chip cards so pick your battles.

When it comes to additional accessories, Ghostek is planning a holster, armband, wireless power bank and a bike mount. Why do I like the Exec 4?

I’m a big fan of progress. Of growth. I learned in my early 20’s that being stationary in life meant that I wasn’t growing, I wasn’t improving. Ghostek is a company that pushes forward. And to push forward usually means doing something different. Ghostek isn’t afraid to do that.

This was the Exec 2. Here’s the Exec 3. The old versions of the case do not look anything like the Exec 4. Is Ghostek iterating until they find something works? Maybe.

But at the very least, they’re not giving up and are iterating, learning, creating and moving on. And that’s got them to the Exec4 which is pretty great. Companies like that are worth supporting.
