This video is the third in my series of tutorials for beginners on how to identify and correct common error messages appearing in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. A common error encountered in Excel is the so called #VALUE! error which will be the subject of this video.
The causes of the hashtag Value! error:-
1. An accidental space between digits in a numerical value eg 10._5
2. A syntax error in the formula like =B5,C5 instead of =B5-C5
3. Text in one of the cells referenced in a formula like N/A or Nil instead of 0
4. Incorrect format of a cell in the formula range Eg AUD instead of $ in a currency format.
5. A referenced cell that has an illegal character like a space or a letter.
6. Accidental use of a letter in place of a number like O(Oh) for 0(zero)
To fix
1. Remove space
2. Correct syntax
3. Remove text from a cells referenced in a formula.
4. Use correct syntax for a specific format.
5. Check all referenced cells for illegal characters or spaces.
6. Check and remove any letters used in place of numerals.
