Pitof began his career in the film industry in 1976 as an assistant director, still photographer and film editor. He then went on to pioneer the use of digital technology in France, starting the world of Digital Visual Effects in 1986 working with some of the most renowned filmmakers across the globe in commercials and music videos. After 1990, Pitof developed the first French High Resolution Visual Effects software for feature films. He has been the Visual Effects Supervisor for films such as Delicatessen, The City of the Lost Children, Alien: Resurrection, the Story of Joan of Arc. Collecting several technical awards and nominations in the course of his career, he was the recipient of the Technical Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1994 for his work on Dead Tired. Pitof's feature-film directorial debut, Vidocq starring Gerard Depardieu, was released in 2001, and was the first film ever to be shot in High Definition Digital Cinema. Vidocq was honored with numerous awards including The Citizen Kane Award, Best Film, Best Director, and Best Visual Effects from the Catalonian International Film Festival in Sitges, Spain.
