Bunny Chow Barometer sees a total of 39 eateries that have qualified to compete for the coveted prize of KwaZulu-Natal’s Bunny Chow champion showcasing their bunny chow culinary skills to wow the competition judges.

Bunny chow is a traditional Durban Indian dish that consists of a hollowed-out loaf of white bread filled with curry. Some of the curries commonly used inside a bunny chow is either mutton, chicken, beans, mixed vegetables, prawns. Although you can fill the inside with anything you fancy.

There were 10 Finalists that took part in this competition which took place at Blue Lagoon by the Durban beach front on the 30th July 2023.

The competition is now in its 15th year and has gained a strong following.

The winner will receive a R50 000 store makeover, whilst second place will receive a R30 000 store makeover and third place receiving a R20 000 store makeover. The event was attended by hundreds of people of all races showing South Africa's rainbow nation spirit.

Some of the restaurants which are 10 finalists are Chetty's takeaway, BP Pick n pay express Arena park, Bar Code, Cafe India Seaview, BP Chatsworth express, Green Chili fine dining, Chili Pot, The Curry O's just to name a few.
