To remove the bottom plate on vintage Kenmore sewing machines, like models 1913 and 1914, remove the 5 screws shown, on the bottom, open the bobbin cover door.

Now, youneed to pinch the bottom plate, at the front, right where the lip is, next to the bobbin cover door, and pull the entire bottom plate down, and to the back.

It is easier when it is warm, so the plastic plate can flex enough to get over the lip, next to the bobbin cover door.
