Hi, my name is David P. Shapiro. I'm the owner and managing partner of The Law Office of David P. Shapiro located in San Diego, California, where my firm helps good people regain control of their future when charged with a crime. In this video, I want to talk to you about why the size of the criminal defense law firm you hire or are considering hiring matters.
Now, San Diego is filled with a lot of solo practitioners and pretty small criminal defense law firms. And when I say pretty small criminal defense law firms, I mean one, two, maybe three, and a handful of firms in San Diego, criminal defense law firms, where you have two, three attorneys. Maybe a lot of times, solo practitioners.
I was there. When I first started my firm in 2010, I was a solo practitioner. I was answering my own calls. I was opening my own mail. I was sending my own discovery letters. I was wearing the receptionist hat. I was wearing the attorney hat. I was wearing the legal assistant hat. I was wearing the paralegal hat. I was doing the sales. I was doing the marketing. I was doing everything.
And I did it because I needed to at that stage in my career and in that stage of the firm. But looking back on it, looking back at 2010, looking back at 2015, looking back at 2019 or even 2020, what I could tell you is the law firm that we have today is far more equipped and far more prepared to obtain and maintain the best results possible for our clients. And the reason is due to the size of the firm and the quality of the individuals that we have working at the firm.
So when you hire a law firm, what you're really looking for are a firm that has multiple attorneys. So not just one attorney who may be in trial for a week, two weeks, three weeks at a time, and your case is on ice. What happens if you hire a law firm and hey, they already have a commitment? That attorney you want's got a commitment that day. What happens? Who's going to appear for you?
Well, if you hire a law firm with multiple attorneys, in all likelihood, someone from that firm is actually going to still be there with you in court. So you'll have someone under that firm's umbrella, someone who knows you, someone who knows the case, someone who knows the objectives of what the firm is trying to accomplish for you whenever, in the unlikely situation, there are scheduling conflicts.
You also want to make sure that you have a law firm that has a full team of assistants. So what happens if you call the law firm and the attorney is in court? Well, you want an assistant or assistants there that know your case, that know you, that could be able to help you and have your questions answered in a timely manner to get you the information you need during these most difficult times.
So that's just a small example of the value of hiring a law firm with multiple attorneys, multiple legal assistants, and how that protects you if you're facing criminal charges, particularly a criminal case in San Diego, California. If you have any questions about your case, feel free to reach out to my firm, 619-295-3555. Again, David Shapiro, San Diego criminal attorney.
