For those of you who are sorely missing the ICC’s Friday night Irish music session because the building is closed due to Lockdown, do not despair, because today we have a real treat for you. The wonderful fiddle player, Fiona Daly and the gifted uilleann piper, flute and whistle player Colman Connolly, who both regularly play at the Friday night sessions, send a great ‘Big Hello’ to you all and play you a few jigs and reels from their roof garden in Acton, West London.

Born in West London to Irish Parents (from County Roscommon) Fiona Daly grew up hearing stories about her Grandmother playing the fiddle and the melodeon, back in the house in rural Ireland, and this inspired Fiona to learn to play. Fiona’s musical journey has had long time roots in the ICC. Fiona attended the Master tutor and Fiddle player Brendan Mulkere’s music classes at the ICC for many years. She has also performed at the centre and she started up the weekly Irish music session, which ran for over five years in the former building.

Colman Connolly also grew up in London where he was taught to play uilleann pipes, flute and whistle from an early age. Colman was a finalist in the ICC’s Irish Musician Of The Year Competition in 2005. He was one of the principle tutors for the London Pipers Club, (when it was based at the ICC), and he has won the title ‘All Britain Champion’ for uilleann piping twice in a row! Colman is currently a member of the inspirational celtic world music group ‘The Blue Project’ which has produced the album ‘Blue’. He also plays in a duo with the talented Harpist, Harriet Earis, who produced the album ‘Jumping Ahead’. Coleman is also a member of the awesome six piece Irish trad band ‘Siansa’.
