Appalachian Trail MD Harpers Ferry Gathland Section Hike

Father’s Day Weekend, June 14, 15, 16, 2024. The weather sunny, stunning and beautiful.

We had the opportunity to visit the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Visitor’s Center in Harper’s Ferry, WV. This is one of the most well-known landmarks along the trail. It offers a place to learn, relax and buy some cool gear. We were also able to document our section hike goal in their tracking system.

Our home base was the Holiday Inn Express in Charles Town, WV. We highly recommend. Staff very friends and close to Harper’s Ferry and other trail parking.

We started our hike in Harper’s Ferry and hiked a few miles north to Sandy Hook Bridge.

We parked at Gathland State Park and LOVED this area! We hiked 3.8 miles north and back and then 2 more miles south and back. Total miles for the day 12.75 and a total elevation gain of 1,762. A challenging but AWESOME day!

Trail Magic Joy and Blessing provided by Friendship Baptist Church in Sykesville, MD. They have been providing food and drinks to hikers for 8 years.

We parked at Weaverville Cliffs Parking lot and hiked 2 miles south and back.
