Uber rolled out their Upfront Pricing in 2017 and has confirmed that they will determine Upfront Pricing for passengers based on what they think passengers are WILLING to pay. No longer will an Uber ride be calculated based on time and distance. Uber Upfront Pricing will use an algorithm to determine different pricing based on a multitude of factors, like which neighborhood they are coming from.

Bottom line, your upfront price from Uber may differ greatly from Uber's published per mile and time prices. Instead of paying the $0.90/mile and $0.15/minute rate for an UberX, you could be paying much more than that due to Uber guessing what they think you will be willing to pay.

So how do you fight back? Simple. Stop using Uber completely. Start using Lyft instead. (Use the link above to download the Lyft app and get some ride discounts in the process.)

Price compare both Uber and Lyft before making your ride request. More than likely Lyft will be cheaper because, as of today, Lyft is calculating fares based on time and distance.

Another way to fight back is to complain to Uber. Ask for the difference between what Uber collected from you and what they should have charged be refunded to you.
