The Grand Theft Auto National Football League (GTANFL) is a professional American football league that consists of 24 teams, divided equally between the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The NFL is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada and the highest professional level of American football in the world. Each GTANFL season begins annually with a four-week preseason in August, followed by the 17-week regular season, which runs from early September to early January, with each team playing 16 games and having one bye week. Following the conclusion of the regular season, six teams from each conference, including four division winners and two wild card teams, advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament, which culminates in the Super Bowl, played in early February between the winners of the AFC and NFC championship games.
The Liberty City Cocks is a soccer team based in Liberty City, mentioned in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Advance and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. In GTA III (2001) the team seems to be playing at Liberty Memorial Coliseum (also known as Bush Stadium) in Aspatria, Staunton Island, while in GTA Liberty City Stories (1998), the stadium is undergoing renovations. In GTA Liberty City Stories, the team has an official fan shop whose main building is right across the stadium. Many Cocks fans can be seen walking around Bush Stadium and some can even be heard asking others if they are a fan of the Liberty City Beavers (their fierce rivals). The Cocks and the Beavers have known meetings, implying that there is a fierce rivalry/derby. Oddly, despite the fact that the team crest and rivalry with the Beavers, plus an article from Liberty Tree, all show that they are a soccer team, the field inside the stadium and the "Two-Hand Toss" mission suggests that they play American football. This may be an oversight by Rockstar; however, it is possible that the Cocks also field a football team – this is somewhat akin to the New York Giants, who shared an association with the MLB's New York Giants. Additionally, there was an American football team called the New York Yankees in the 1940s, who were owned by Dan Topping, a former part-owner of the MLB's New York Yankees.
The Liberty City Cocks is a soccer team based in Liberty City, mentioned in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. There are still many references to the LC Cocks in the HD Universe. Eduard Borodin was visiting Liberty City to purchase the team according to an Liberty Tree internet article after the mission Paper Trail. There is also an LC Cocks book in Luis' Apartment in The Ballad of Gay Tony. Presumably, they share a rivalry with the Liberty City Beavers as well as Red Mist XI.
The Grove Street Families (a.k.a "Families" or "GSF", "The Grove", or "Groves") is a gang featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It is the protagonistic group in the game, as the game's main protagonist (Carl Johnson) is among its leaders. The Grove Street Families is an African-American street gang and one of the oldest street gangs in Los Santos, San Andreas. They are also the native gang of protagonist Carl Johnson. They are the sworn enemy of the Ballas, an intense and ongoing rivalry as part of the Ballas-Grove Street War. The Families also maintain rivalries with the two Mexican gangs in Los Santos – the Los Santos Vagos and the Varrios Los Aztecas. Their rivalry with the Varrios Los Aztecas is not nearly as intense as it is with the Ballas and Vagos. However, both gangs will still commonly fight. Kendl (sister of Grove Street Leader Sweet) ends up dating a high-ranking member of the Aztecas while CJ befriends him – much to the disapproval of Sweet.
