किडनी फेलियर के किस स्टेज में डायलिसिस जरूरी है | Which Stage of Kidney Failure Requires Dialysis
Kidney failure doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a gradual process that moves through different stages. Knowing which stage you're in helps doctors decide the right treatment, diet, and precautions. In this video, Dr. Puru Dhawan explains the classification of kidney failure stages, how they’re identified through eGFR, and what symptoms may or may not appear as the disease progresses. Through a patient case, the video also highlights recovery and real-life improvements without dialysis.

The classification of kidney failure is based on eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate). It is not a separate test but derived from creatinine levels, age, and other factors. Patients are categorized into five stages:
Stage 1: eGFR above 90, early signs like protein in urine.
Stage 2: eGFR between 60–90, slight rise in creatinine.
Stage 3 (3A & 3B): eGFR between 30–60, noticeable kidney damage.
Stage 4: eGFR between 15–30, symptoms like weakness, loss of appetite begin.
Stage 5 (ESRD): eGFR below 15, dialysis becomes necessary.

In the early stages, patients may not feel any symptoms. Kidney damage progresses silently until more than 50% of function is lost. Some signs, when they do appear, include weakness, nausea, itching, and shortness of breath. This makes early diagnosis difficult, and often by Stage 3 or 4, visible symptoms begin to emerge.

Managing blood pressure, diabetes, and eliminating the root cause is the first step in controlling creatinine levels. Healing starts when further damage stops. Alongside medication, proper nutrition is crucial. Over-restriction of food weakens the body, which indirectly harms kidney health. Energy and strength are essential to help the kidneys function better.
