Here's the backstory behind this impromptu jam session:

When I was a little girl, I’d sneak out past bedtime to watch Ryan Cayabyab’s #RyanRyanMusikahan TV show. I don’t know why, but his music and personality really struck more than a few chords with me. Smokey Mountain, a young musical act he formed, conceptualised and wrote amazing songs for, I became obsessed with. I remember playing that cassette tape over and over, geeking out on the songwriting - the sleeve quickly became worn and tattered as I learned the songs by heart. This particular song, "Kailan", was my favorite. So you can only imagine how epic this moment was for me - an unexpected chance to sing this song with my childhood hero.

From being his little “stalker” at a Smokey Mountain Concert to finally meeting him at an audition for his #ElementsNationalSongwritingCamp in 2010, Mr. C inspired me to change the course of my life from a career in fashion to music - and it’s been a wild ride! He has since become a mentor, teacher and a friend.

This impromptu jam happened at a private party in Manila on September 22nd 2019 - another one for the books, definitely. I originally shared this on Instagram then, but I’m reposting this here on Youtube in celebration of his birthday and that of 7101 Music Nation’s Mr. Julio D. Sy, Jr.’s - both very influential people in my life, to whom i will always be grateful. How crazy that they share a birthday! And how perfect it is that this video was taken by Michelle "Twinky" Lagdameo, who rounds up the 7101 Music Nation triumvirate - without Mr. C, Sir Jun and Twinky, I never would have found the courage to seriously pursue my music dreams!
