Today I want to share a few different ways you can compose an image to get a more interesting photo.

Photography Composition Tip 1: The Rule of Thirds. I know I know, you've heard this before so I won't waffle on about it much. I keep this short. Lining up your street photography within a grid that is split up in thirds is an easy way to ensure you get a strong composition. For some reason... I'm not a scientist so I don't know why but the human eye is drawn towards these points and lines within a photo so composing your photos with these lines is good way of creating an appealing image. Like any rule, feel free to break it but as a guide it's always an easy ways to compose your photo.

Photography Composition Tip 2: Layering. This is where you have multiple layers in one frame. You have your foreground (everything closest to the camera) your background (everything furthest away) and everything in between. Try taking a photo using a subject in the foreground AND background at the same time to create a few layers.

Photography Composition Tip 3: Don't Be Afraid To Crop. This is something I have started to do much more regularly with my photos. What I mean by this, is tightening your photos and actually force the viewer to look at one thing specifically.

Photography Composition Tip 4: Balance. This one is about filling in the gaps. This is definitely the most simple of points I will make in this video. This one also might be about timing. If you're taking photos of people then waiting for the subject to fill the gap will give you the best composition and keep the photo nicely balanced.

Photography Composition Tip 5: Negative Space. This tip might contradict my previous point about balancing your compositions but using negative space means intentionally leaving big open, empty spaces in your photo. I don't use negative space very often but when I do, it's a for a very good reason.

Photography Composition Tip 6: Leading lines. This style is a very popular composition, you've probably seen a lot of typical instagram bangers use this method. Leading lines do exactly what it says on the tin. They're lines in the photo that lead your eyes into the subject. Leading lines are popular because of how easy they are to find, every street on every city will have some kind of leading line composition you can find.

Photography Composition Tip 7: External Framing. External framing is when you use everything around you in the streets to frame your subject. Sometimes external framing can look a bit hectic so I try to not over do this style.

I hope this video has helped give you some simple ideas for cool compositions you can try next time you go do some street photography.
