‘Britons, Strike Home’ - British Patriotic Song

Описание к видео ‘Britons, Strike Home’ - British Patriotic Song

‘Britons Strike Home’ is a British patriotic song originally written in 1695 by Henry Purcell. It was for a theatrical production about Queen Boudicca of the Iceni. Originally intended as a rallying cry for Britons against the romans in the threatre, yet the song became popular as a patriotic song itself. With the song being sung in naval and land battles all the way up to the 19th century in the battle of Trafalgar.

The song was revived during the Napoleonic wars, gaining new lyrics and verses in 1805, singing of protecting freedom and Britain from Frenchmen and tyranny. The version here has the original 1695 lyrics.

Recording done by the English Chamber Orchestra, I don’t own the music in any way.
