I feel like this quote is actually about Damon. Everyone sees him as the personification of evil, but in reality he's just "a ball of snow and ice" - just a man, that has feelings like everybody else and a humanity like no one else. He's not a vampire with blood on his hands, he is just human - with a heart, a curse and a deeply hurt soul.

You see a lot of Delena moments at the end not because I'm a Delena-shipper. It's just that Elena is a great part of Damon's life - and not only because he loves her. I think, she's the only one that can give him a feeling of peace, a sense of home.
The first person Damon met whet he returned to Mystic Falls was Elena.

So, I know the song is pretty much overused... I just felt like it fits, so I chose to use it.
