Hawaii's Long-Arm Sand Octopus ~ related to the Mimic Octopus

Описание к видео Hawaii's Long-Arm Sand Octopus ~ related to the Mimic Octopus

Seldomly seen, Hawaii's long-arm sand octopus (Thaumoctopus sp.) is related to Indonesia's famous Mimic octopus. This long-arm sand octopus was peeking its eyes out of its burrow and allowed me to slowly approach it. As it grew more confident (I know, I am anthropomorphizing here...) it eventually fully emerged out of its hole and tossed a shell out. I find this species to be much shyer than Indonesia's species. I spent the entire dive with my head down searching the sandy bottom that I almost didn't see the school of milk fish or spinner dolphins pass right next to me!
