Early July I was going to the Arabian Festival at Yoyogi Park in Harajuku when I got caught out in a thunderstorm without an umbrella. I ran to the pedestrian bridge and took what little shelter there was to be had there under the bridge. It was so windy the rain was coming in at an angle. Thunderstorms used to be a rare occurrence but this summer and especially just the month of July has seen a lot of them.

The thunderstorms are sometimes called guerrilla rainstorms as they can appear at short notice and be anywhere with any amount of intensity. The rain here poured heavily for about an hour, let up for a little while, then poured down again for another half hour. I and several people and one poor dog waited the storm out as thunder boomed and lightning flashed all about.
