The Wayne Legacy - A Batman Fan Film by Anthony Pierre Jr.

On December 13, 2023, we lost our friend Anthony Pierre Jr. In the years before this, he spent much of his time creating, and one of those creations was this film, The Wayne Legacy, formerly titled The Batman. Filming completed in 2019, but Anthony could never get the edit perfect. Like most of his projects, it was put aside to be worked on later. In the summer of 2023, Anthony resumed working on it, choosing to start fresh. From what I know about Anthony, his desire for perfection led to too many obstacles on the road to completion. That would be the last time he worked on the project.

In January of 2024, I reached out to friends of Anthony to see if I could finish this project for him. For those who don’t know, Anthony and I collaborated on several projects. I first met him on the set of a music video I was filming, where he took behind-the-scenes photos for us. His photos were fantastic. Later, he directed a film in which I was the cinematographer. We learned a lot from each other. During that time, I let Anthony know that I was working on a feature and asked if he would star in it. That film is Cover Me, and he did such a great job.

Back to 2024. The hard drive was shipped to me, and I started working immediately. There was a lot of work to do, and I could see how Anthony may have felt there was a mountain in front of him. I slowly chipped away at it, not knowing when it would be ready for release. I told no one, so as not to get any hopes up. I hired people to help with sound, as some of the scenes had none. I used technology to substitute voices that weren’t recorded well. I listened to hours of music to find pieces he would have approved of. It was a challenge, but one I wouldn’t give up.

I’m sad this is the last project that Anthony and I will work on together. He was with me in spirit as I found behind-the-scenes videos of him being silly on set or working hard to set up the perfect shot. I plan to share these with you soon.
