Scrutiny of Secretaries of State in the House of Lords - Procedure Committee

Описание к видео Scrutiny of Secretaries of State in the House of Lords - Procedure Committee

Following the appointment of Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton to the role of Foreign Secretary on 13 November 2023, the Procedure Committee is undertaking an inquiry to explore options for MPs to effectively scrutinise Secretaries of State in the House of Lords and the work of their departments.

Under the current rules of the House of Commons, the work of peers in the House of Lords can only be scrutinised in select committee sessions, and not in the House of Commons chamber.

During the session at 3pm on Monday 18 December, the Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt MP, the Shadow Leader of the House of Commons Lucy Powell MP and the Cabinet Office Parliamentary Secretary Alex Burghart MP will be questioned by the Procedure Committee about what options are available for members of the House of Commons to effectively scrutinise Lord Cameron and the work of his department.
