This was my race at the Belgian gravel championship, finishing P18/95 in my age group.
I had a great time and didn’t suffer any mechanicals or crashes. The organization was excellent, and the many enthusiastic spectators made it a fantastic day for us.
My strategy was to maintain a strong and steady pace - which was impossible 😅 - without riding in my red zone or burning out. Since I don’t have that explosiveness like some ohters – which was crucial on this course to keep up with fast groups – I had to rely on sustaining long, constant power. That worked out very well for me because in the end, I still felt like I had plenty left in the tank.

The first two laps were fast and intense, but in the third and final lap I found myself in a large group (+30 riders) where there was little cooperation. The same riders kept taking the lead, and although I contributed to keeping the pace, it no longer made a real difference.

Too bad the battery died 6 km before the finish. Because of that, you missed the sprint of the dying swans, as well as my failed attempt to break away 5 km before the finish.

Speeds in the forest sections might look off sometimes, GPS doesn’t always behave under the trees.
