Jonathan Saraga is a New York City-based trumpeter, flugelhornist, composer, arranger, producer, educator and Doctor of Musical Arts who’s been performing, recording and competing globally for over two decades. All About Jazz (U.S.) has compared it to the "envelope-pushing hard bop of many a Blue Note record in the early 1960s", "John Zorn's Masada" and has hailed it as “a stand-up-and-take-notice offering." They’ve also commented that Saraga’s “chops, lust for musical life and don't-box-me-into-a-stylistic-corner mentality make him seem like the musical offspring of trumpeters Dave Douglas and Ambrose Akinmusire.” Jazz Magazine (France) has reflected on his music’s “astonishing maturity” and Jazz Journal, (U.K.) on how it "comes out of the speakers with a rare confidence and finish, but without the smuggery and sheen that a lot of contemporary jazz has in place of real content”. Modern Jazz (Greece) made note of it’s “sincerity, musicality and a tasteful rhythmicity that fosters a refined, necessary for jazz, manifest passion,” while Jerry Gordon of Evidence Records (U.S.) has deemed it "brilliant", and Miguel Zenon has hailed it as "impressive", "very focused" and "well conceived”. Dr. Saraga has engaged with audiences in over 500 cities, nearly 70 countries and just short of 100 different universities worldwide, and his work has received over 30 international awards, including 4 trumpet competition placements, 8 composition competition placements, 8 grant/commission receipts, 6 residency invitations and 2 educational conference invitations from 25 different organizations.
