Thomas Doyle: If the creek don't rise - An exhibition at the Hudson River Museum

In his first solo Museum exhibition, on view at the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers from February 6 2016 through May 8 2016. Thomas Doyle, multi-media artist and brilliant micro-miniaturist, creates a swollen riverbed that crosses the Museum's gallery. The flooding river must be stopped and piled-up paraphernalia from a nearby house becomes the force that holds it back. "The dam made of artificial manufactured things, has a purpose," Doyle said, "while it nods to the absurdity of a changing, natural world."

Doyle shows us the transformations an object undergoes by constructing a suburban home in a scale of 3.5 mm to 1 foot, the same size as a model train. Inspired by 19th-century Hudson River School artist Thomas Cole who painted The Course of Empire that shows the growth and fall of a city in five parts, Doyle places his suburban home inside five portals in which we glimpse the house's life cycle.
