DRAG RACE: Toyota Hilux 2,4 GD-6 vs Nissan Navara 2,5D

The all-new Nissan Navara maintains the brand’s turbodiesel 2,5-litre four-cylinder mill as used in the previous-generation model. As per the brand’s claims, this produces 140 kW and 450 N.m of torque. This is quite a bit more than the Toyota Hilux 2,4 GD-6’s claimed output of 110 kW and 400 N.m of torque.

Regardless, we thought we would pit the two locally built Japanese bakkies up against one another to see which is faster in a quarter-mile drag race. Both 4x4 bakkies make use of an automatic transmission with the Navara employing a seven-speed and the Hilux, a six-speed torque converter.
