Описание к видео Cave Canem at The New School: New Works

Sponsored by the Creative Writing Program (http://www.newschool.edu/public-engag...) at The New School (http://www.newschool.edu) and Cave Canem Foundation, please join us for a reading of recently published poems by Derrick Lynn Austin and Colleen J. McElroy. Austin is the recipient of the A. Poulin, Jr. Award for Trouble the Water (BOA Editions, 2016), about which Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon says, “When you pick up this book, be prepared to dissolve into its atmosphere of gorgeous potential.” McElroy won the American Book Award for her collection Queen of the Ebony Isles and is the author of several collections of poetry, most recently, Blood Memory (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2016). Nikky Finney writes, “[McElroy] is still the master storyteller to the 60 million of the Passage. When I didn't know how to be a poet, I first read Colleen McElroy to slowly walk the path to how.”

Derrick Austin is the author of Trouble the Water (BOA Editions), selected by Mary Szybist for the 2015 A Poulin Jr Prize. A Cave Canem fellow, he earned his MFA from the University of Michigan. His work has appeared in Best American Poetry 2015, Image: A Journal of Arts and Religion, New England Review, Callaloo, Nimrod, Puerto Del Sol, and elsewhere. Currently, he is the Ron Wallace Fellow at the University of Wisconsin.

Colleen J. McElroy is professor emeritus of English and creative writing at the University of Washington. She is the former editor in chief of the literary magazine Seattle Review and has published nine poetry collections, most recently, Sleeping with the Moon, for which she received a 2008 PEN/Oakland National Literary Award. Her latest collections of creative nonfiction include A Long Way from St. Louie and Over the Lip of the World: Among the Storytellers of Madagascar, the finalist in the 2000 PEN USA Research-based Creative Nonfiction category. McElroy has received the Before Columbus American Book Award, two Fulbright Research Fellowships, two NEA Fellowships (in both fiction and poetry), a DuPont Visiting Scholar Fellowship, and a Rockefeller Fellowship.
