VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
The Wake of Brian Boru began at Swords Abbey before his body was moved to Armagh for burial following his death at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. The site of St. Columba's Church marked a key moment in Irish history. This video captures my evening there to reenact the wake within the historic setting of Swords Abbey, which occurred on the 26th April, 2025 - 1,011 years after the event!

The abbey was founded in the 6th century by St. Columba, and the round tower, built in the 9th century, remains a significant feature of the site today. I explored the grounds, including the tower, and was treated to a rehearsal from the harpist. The event organised by the Friends of Columbas included a selection of musicians and singers. The night honoured the fallen Emperor of the Gael and Ireland's greatest High King.
