In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 3 Topic 5 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 3 (1754-1800).

Here, at long last, we arrive at the American Revolution. Despite considerable loyalist opposition to the revolutionary cause, the Patriots of America took up arms to fight for independence. By all accounts, the Americans should not have won given Britain's military superiority in nearly every way.

However, because of George Washington's leadership of the Continental Army, the colonists' ideological commitment and resilience, and assistance sent (especially) by France after the Battle of Saratoga, the former colonists won the Revolutionary War against Britain.
