Front & Rear DIFFERENTIAL Service on Land Rover LR4 Discovery 4

Описание к видео Front & Rear DIFFERENTIAL Service on Land Rover LR4 Discovery 4

👋 Hey all you Land Rover maniacs! Last weekend I finally had the time to give the differentials of our Land Rover Discovery 4 / LR4 a little attention and change the fluid in the front and rear differential. I'm assuming that no-one has ever changed the oil in them. And even if they had, it was certainly necessary again due to the mileage of almost 260,000 kilometres. I think if your differentials are already making noise, you should think about changing the differential oil!

How often do you actually change your differential oil and which oil do you recommend?

Is there also so much metal sludge and abrasion on the magnet of the exhaust screw? In my case, the screw or where the magnet is was full to bursting 🤦‍♂️ It got me thinking about the wear and tear these components endure over time.

Enjoy the video, and here's to all the off-road adventures ahead.

Wishing you a fantastic day,
Peter 🙂

🛠️ Recommended Service Interval:

Land Rover prescribes changing the oil every 240,000 kilometres / 150,000 miles or every 10 years for normal 'open' differentials without electronic locking. With a lock, every 120,000 kilometres / 75,000 miles or every 5 years.

🛢️ Amount of Diff Oil on ALL CARS (Petrol/Gas & Diesel):

Front Diff: 0.56 litres
Rear Diff: Open: 1.18 litres
Rear Electronic torque managed (ETM): 1.72 litres

🛠️ Amount of Torque for the plugs:

Oil filler plug: 34 Nm
Oil drain plug, with 3/8'' square drive plug: 28 Nm
Oil drain plug, with Hexagonal drive plug: 54 Nm

🔄 Differences between 75W-90 and the 75W-140:

The major difference between the oils is their kinematic viscosity.
While 75W-90 has a kinematic viscosity of 13.5 - 18.4 mm²/s, 75W-140 has a kinematic viscosity of 24.0 - 32.4 mm²/s. This means that 75W140 has a better viscosity-temperature behaviour.
